The image is old but remains
in vivid Technicolor. You can touch it.
On the rocks. In the riverbed and out of time.
Some sentimentality is earned,
I thought as you kissed my wet soles.
It was there. A kind of animating force, I guess.
For instance, the moon—it looked—was on fire.
Happy to let insects crawl over our skin. Us,
suddenly clairvoyant. It meant a lot to let it happen.
