On entering a building of importance, a corporate HQ, an airport, a theater, a music venue, a bar or a brothel or a crack house or a mental institution, even a large café, or a place of worship of any kind, I’m moved to make the sign of the cross.

Yes, I really want to cross myself and say a little prayer before I order, or when the film starts, or when I pass the security gate, start whispering, in the name of the Father, and the Son… and so on.

And when I'm not careful, I get down on my knees as soon as the lights go out.
